10th Anniversary Fabric Film

Financial Times and Nikkei

Client: Financial Times and Nikkei

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Nikkei–Financial Times partnership, we created The Anniversary Fabric Film; an in-house brand film designed to unite a global organisation through craft, culture and shared purpose. At a moment when awareness of the partnership varied across regions, the project aimed to build internal pride, deepen understanding and create a tangible expression of collaboration.

Inspired by the idea that partnerships, like fabrics, are formed by weaving individual threads into something stronger, the team created a bespoke textile using Japanese paper yarn, coloured in FT Pink and Nikkei Blue. Designed with British textile studio Wallace Sewell and woven at a historic Lancashire mill, the fabric became a powerful metaphor for the partnership’s shared journalistic heritage and values. The film documents the making of the fabric with cinematic care, celebrating craftsmanship, innovation and cultural exchange. Shot as an artistic piece rather than a promotional film, it sensitively bridges British and Japanese traditions, supported by an original score and bilingual accessibility to ensure global resonance. Launched through internal channels and major global events, the film became a shared cultural touchpoint for colleagues across continents. The fabric itself evolved into a living symbol, now displayed in offices, used at events and transformed into merchandise that encouraged participation and belonging. The project transformed a corporate milestone into a lasting creative legacy, demonstrating how thoughtful storytelling and craft can unite people, strengthen partnerships and deliver value far beyond an anniversary year.
