Babar Azam's Phone Lost

Client: Ufone

Ufone is Pakistan’s challenger telecom brand. Entering the 4G space later than competitors, it needed to earn relevance in data conversations already crowded with price-led digital advertising. Instead of chasing attention, Ufone built a culturally native platform Data Bohhaaat Hai (More than enough data) designed to live where people talk, react, and share: social media.

The platform reached scale through Babar Azam, Pakistan’s most followed and trusted sporting icon. So when the ICC Champions Trophy returned to Pakistan, the country’s biggest digital moment - Ufone didn’t launch a campaign online. It triggered one. A single, unbranded tweet from Babar Azam about his “lost phone” sparked instant speculation. Fans reacted in real time. Memes multiplied. Influencers responded. News outlets picked it up. Even live sports commentary referenced the moment. There were no logos, hashtags, or calls-to-action - just a credible digital event unfolding publicly. Social media didn’t amplify the idea. It was the idea. The conversation spread organically across X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and news platforms before the brand entered the narrative. When curiosity peaked, the reveal connected the entire moment back to Ufone’s Weekly Grand Offer: the phone mattered because it carried a lot of data. Data Bohhaaat Hai. Results proved the effectiveness of digital-first storytelling. Weekly Grand Offer subscriptions increased by 57%. Monthly incremental revenue exceeded PKR 70M. Data penetration grew by 7%. Earned media crossed PKR 50M, with overwhelmingly positive-sentiment. This wasn’t a digital campaign supported by social. It was a social moment that became a social engine.
