Portraits of Plymouth

WING London

Client: Babcock

Portraits of Plymouth is a strategic internal communications film created by WING for Babcock and the wider Team Plymouth partnership - a coalition between Babcock, the Ministry of Defence and Plymouth City Council. Its purpose is simple but ambitious: raise the profile of Plymouth as a national centre of innovation, defence capability and future opportunity, and inspire long-term backing from policymakers, investors and civic leaders.

A £4.4bn investment into HMNB Devonport and the Royal Dockyard over the next decade represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build prosperity, accelerate innovation and improve life outcomes for the region. The film responds to this moment by putting people at the heart of the story. Told through five authentic voices, Portraits of Plymouth blends intimate, hero-frame portraits with sweeping cinematic visuals and historic archive footage to create a living portrait of a city in transformation. Our contributors - from defence leaders to students, apprentices, SMEs, community figures and Babcock employees across generations - articulate Plymouth’s character with honesty, pride and purpose.
