TED: My Big Idea

WING London

Client: TED

TED: My BIG IDEA is a three-part long-form documentary series created by WING for TED, designed to open up an entirely new storytelling format for the organisation. Known globally for the iconic TED Talk stage, TED challenged WING to go deeper - to create a series that explores where world-changing ideas come from, how they form, and who the people behind them really are.

The result is a character-driven documentary format that follows three “ordinary”people with extraordinary ideas as they prepare for the TED stage. Over 600 people applied to the open call; WING worked with TED to research, interview and refine this down to three contributors whose ideas spoke to urgent social change. Shot across 13 production days with a small, nimble crew, the series blends documentary, stylised studio shoots, animation and GFX-driven allegory to elevate each idea’s emotional and educational impact. The series culminated in a live TED event in Brighton, also produced and captured by WING. My BIG IDEA launched on TED’s YouTube channel and resonated immediately with a global online audience - generating hundreds of thousands of views, strong engagement and overwhelmingly positive sentiment. Its success led TED to commission a second international series, cementing the format as a flagship new strand in TED’s future programming.
