Released in July 2025 on UEFA.tv and across social media, the Mental Health episode of UEFA’s Take Care series is a powerful and deeply personal documentary that brings together expert insight and authentic stories from the football community to inspire open conversation and action on mental health.

Featuring Spain legend Andrés Iniesta and narrated by former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, the film delivers a vital message: caring for mental wellbeing is as essential as caring for physical health. It encourages everyone — especially young people — to seek balance, talk openly, and use sport and regular physical activity as powerful tools for resilience. With 50% of mental health issues starting by age 14, the episode highlights how parents, coaches, and teachers can play a crucial role in early support. It also spotlights an inspiring amateur club in Iceland leading the way in community-driven mental health initiatives. To extend its impact, UEFA has produced a white paper distributed to schools, colleges, and clubs across 55 Member Associations, reaching tens of millions and providing practical resources to drive real change. Running throughout 2025, this film is part of the Europe-wide UEFA Take Care programme with each of the six topics having a supporting documentary, podcast, white paper and educational materials. The topics are Physical Activity, Nutrition, Mental Health, Digital Addiction, Road Safety, and Substance Awareness, the series harnesses football’s reach to promote health, wellbeing, and positive habits - improving lives across the continent.
